Self Control

Updated: Jan 2

Hello Lavenders

Welcome to another blog; I hope you enjoyed last week's blog. Thank you for your excellent comments and feedback. I genuinely appreciate it. Be sure to like, share, comment, and subscribe. I hope you enjoy today's blog; thank you :).

What is something you cannot do without, something you cannot live without? Except for your everyday needs, what is that thing you cannot live without? For me, it is my academics. I love school and enjoy doing my schoolwork. No matter what time of the day or what mood I am in, I can always do my schoolwork. Galatians 5:22-23 says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law". According to Psychology Today, Self-control is defined as "the ability to manage one's impulses, emotions, and behaviors to achieve long-term goals." Self-control is an essential and vital trait that we as young women must inquire about and pray daily until it becomes a part of who we are. Some of the typical ways that a lack of self-control can be exhibited in the life of a young female is through her emotions, especially towards the opposite sex. Many young females struggle with their feelings and emotions throughout their teen years, and they are sometimes taken advantage of as a result of this.

Self-control can be applied to any and every area of our lives. Our relationship with God, our relationship with our family members, our relationships with friends, etc. Whatever it is, everything in life requires self-control. Have you ever heard the phrase, there can be too much of everything except praising and worshipping God? I laughed when I first heard this phrase, but it is accurate. We can never stop praising and worshipping God, but everything else can be too much. Self-control is personal, not just because it is based on the individual but also because it varies per person. Galatians 5:23 mentions self-control as one of the fruits of the spirit, emphasizing and elaborating on how crucial we need self-control. For me, self-control has to do with my emotions. I control my feelings and do not let my emotions get the most out of me. As young women, we must develop self-control as we grow older. There is so much ahead of us in all aspects and areas of life. Career-wise, purpose-wise, and destiny-wise, we need to develop self-control to navigate life. As we age, more opportunities and choices will need to be made. For example, in a circumstance like this, choosing between three job offers that all pay very well. The Holy Spirit must guide us in making the best choice. Naturally, our human instinct would say to choose the highest-paying one, but that could not be what God wants for us. Self-control is required to ask for guidance from the Holy Spirit and not just choose based on what you think is best.

I want to challenge and encourage you today to develop self-control. Self-control is a way of life; it must become a part of us as young females. God has instructed us to have control over our spirits. Proverbs 25:28 says, "Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control." Do not lose yourself, opportunities, relationships, etc, because you lack self-control. Begin to develop it today through prayer and daily effort.

Thank you so much for reading; God Bless You Greatly. Remember to like, comment, share, and subscribe. If you are reading and do not believe in God, I encourage you to have an open heart and mind and give God a chance to prove himself. Please say this prayer: "Heavenly Father, I am a sinner and come to you to ask you to forgive me of my terrible sins. Thank you for dying for my sins and bearing the shame on that Cross so I may have eternal life. Today, I confess with my mouth that I have sinned against you, and believe with my whole heart that Jesus is Lord, and God raised Him from the dead on the third day. He is seated on the Heavenly throne and intercedes on my behalf. I give you my heart, soul, and life and pray that I will obey thy Word. In the precious name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen."

If you just said that prayer, welcome to the family of believers. Congratulations!! Heaven rejoiced; God is so glad and happy to have you in his family. I will be praying for you and your walk with God. Feel free to contact me on the next steps in this new chapter in your life.
